Ponder

From the desk of Mama Piggy:

It wasn't a very positive start to the week.

I know it wasn't really my business, but I couldn't help but feel for my good friend and her younger brother, who was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia at the prime of his life. He started an intensive seven-day course of chemotherapy today. I cannot imagine what it is like to have a cocktail of powerful drugs injected into your body day after day, feeling the drugs nibbling away at the misbehaving leukaemia cells and the good ones as well.

I know it hurts. I have seen my mom at her fortnightly chemo session for nasopharyngeal cancer treatment. I remember vividly how she grimaced in obvious discomfort as the killer drugs cruised into her bloodstream. The pain that tingles through her vein via the IV drip spreads from nerve to nerve, synapse to synapse, all over her wretched body. And there was nothing I could do, except to watch helplessly, and curse the damn cancer cells which refused to go away after a full course of radiation. The treatment left my mom zapped, both in spirits and in physical health. She has been in remission for the past two years, and we are hoping for the best.

I hope the young man will take to the treatment well, and emerge stronger.

Why don't people realise that the unhappiness and frustrations at work/home and with one another are but a waste of precious time in our brief sojourn in this world?
